Switzerland, Italy and Denmark to Assist Malawi On Energy and Food Security

Lilongwe — New Switzerland Ambassador to Malawi, Ruth Huber Thursday said her focus to the country will be to assist the nation to have improved energy sector and be food secured.

 
After presenting letters of credence to President Prof. Peter Mutharika, Huber said Switzerland and Malawi have had a mutual bilateral relationship for about 15 years now.
 
She said as one way of strengthening the friendship, she will also join hands with the Malawi government in eliminating, HIV and AIDs.
 
"There are a number of areas that we have agreed to corroborate with the President but my primary focus will be how we could improve the Malawi agricultural and energy sectors by among others encouraging use of renewable and solar energy as well as new farming technologies," Huber explained.
 
Apart from the mentioned areas, the Ambassador also said she will try her best in marketing the country's investment opportunities and further ensure that trade between countries is boosted up.
 
"We have so many companies in Switzerland that are good in food processing and seed multiplication. What I can ask from the government is to create a conducive environment for the investors," she appealed.
 
On his part, Filopo Scammacca of Italy said his country will help in making sure that farmers form cooperatives describing it as the modern and only way the country agricultural produce could reach the international market.
 
"Italy is also interested in improving Malawi's energy sector as well as the agro industry. We will use all our skills in promoting Malawi's products to the international markets," the Ambassador explained.
 
Also presented letters of credence to President Mutharika were, Ambassadors for Venezuela, Demark and Serbia.
 
They all said their focus will be boosting the country's tourism, energy and health sectors.
 
"We would like Malawi to start making fuels from the wastes," explained Johnny Flento new Demark Ambassador to Malawi.
